This year has seen the 12th Short Story Competition, featuring stories written by older people and organised by "la Caixa" Foundation in collaboration with Radio Nacional de España. Once again there were two categories: short stories of up to four pages in length and micro-stories of up to one hundred words. A wonderful opportunity to share stories that are full of imagination and become a part of all of us who read them.
The aim of this initiative is to encourage reading and use of the imagination among the elderly, as well as to demonstrate their abilities, knowledge and value to society.
The stories written by older people reflect their lives and all the knowledge they've garnered throughout their years of experience, as well as how they view our history and our time.
The winning story and micro-story will be adapted for the radio and broadcast on Radio Nacional de España (RNE), as well as being published in La Vanguardia newspaper and on the websites of "la Caixa" Foundation and RNE. Their authors will also sit on the jury for next year's competition. In recognition of those taking part, all the shortlisted stories are also published in a book produced every two years.
