Postgraduate studies in Europe and Postgraduate studies in North America and the Asia-Pacific region: to Spanish and Portugueses students who wish to enrol in postgraduate studies abroad.

Doctorate INPhINIT Incoming: to early-stage researchers of any nationality who wish to enrol in a doctoral degree programme in one of the Spanish and Portuguese Research Centres of Excellence.

Doctorate INPhINIT Retaining: to early-stage researchers of any nationality who wish to enrol in a doctoral degree programme in any Spanish or Portuguese university or research centre.

Postdoctorate Junior Leader Incoming: to researchers of any nationality who would like to carry out their postdoctoral research in one of the Spanish and Portuguese Research Centres of Excellence.

Postdoctorate Junior Leader Retaining: to researchers of any nationality who would like to carry out their postdoctoral research in any Spanish or Portuguese university or research centre.

Since 1982, every year ”la Caixa” Foundation has held a call for fellowship applications aimed at students wishing to further their training by carrying out postgraduate studies.

We work hard to support young university talent because we firmly believe that scientific advances, research, mobility and professional qualifications are key to the development of people and society as a whole.

The ”la Caixa” fellowship programme is the most important scheme promoted by a private institution in Spain, both in terms of the number of fellowships granted, the thoroughness of its selection process and the share of the funding given for each scholarship, as well as the variety of disciplines subsidised.

We also stand out for the special attention we pay to fellowship holders before, during and after their period of study, offering them additional services and support to ensure their experience is as enriching as possible.

This year, 230 fellowships are being awarded to study or carry out a research project at universities or research centres in Spain, Portugal and the rest of Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific area.

Postgraduate studies in Europe
 

• 75 fellowships to carry out postgraduate studies (master, doctorate or pre-doctoral research).

• Maximum duration: 24 months.

• Monthly funding: depends on the destination (please consult the conditions).

• Initial funding: €1,100 for general settlement costs and €500 for one return trip to the country of destination.

• Final funding: €250 to issue the qualification and other related administrative costs.

• Prior meeting in a European capital.

• Accident, emergency and civil liability insurance abroad.

• End of the call for applications: 30 January 2020.

Postgraduate studies in North America and the Asia-Pacific region
 

• 45 fellowships to carry out postgraduate studies (master, doctorate or pre-doctoral research).

• Maximum duration: 24 months.

• Monthly funding: depends on the destination (please consult the conditions).

• Initial funding equivalent to one monthly payment, depending on the country of destination.

• Enrolment fees, whatever their cost.

• North America:  One-way plane ticket to the destination airport in the United States or Canada and an allowance of 1,200 US dollars or 1,200 Canadian dollars towards the cost of the return journey.

• Asia-Pacific: Allowance, at the start of the scholarship, of €2,000 towards the cost of the return trip for studies in Australia and €1,500 for all other countries.

• Final funding: €250 to issue the qualification and other related administrative costs.  

• Prior orientation days at Indiana University.

• Cost of five admission applications.

• Cost of issuing the student visa.

• Accident, emergency and civil liability insurance abroad.

• End of the call for applications: 18 March 2020.

Doctorate INPhINIT
 

INCOMING:

• 35 doctoral fellowships for early-stage researchers of any nationality, to enrol in a doctoral degree programme in Spain or Portugal at accredited centres with the Severo Ochoa or María de Maeztu distinction of excellence, any centre of the Carlos III Health Institute, and units considered to be excellent by the Foundation for Science and Technology in Portugal.

• Areas of Bio and Health Sciences, Physics, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

• Maximum duration: 3 years.

• Total funding: 122.592 €.

• Programme of class-based training in across-the-board skills.

• End of the call for applications: 4 February 2020.

RETAINING:

• 30 doctoral fellowships for early-stage researchers of any nationality, to enrol in a doctoral degree programme in any Spanish or Portuguese university or research centre.

• Maximum duration: 3 years.

• Total funding: 122.592 €.

• Programme of class-based training in across-the-board skills.

• End of the call for applications: 26 February 2020.

Postdoctorate Junior Leader

INCOMING:

• 30 postdoctoral fellowships for researchers of all nationalities. They will be offered a three-year employment contract to conduct a research project at accredited centres with the Severo Ochoa or María de Maeztu distinction of excellence, Institutos de Investigación Sanitaria Carlos IIII and units evaluated as excellent by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia of Portugal.

• Maximum duration: 3 years.

• Maximum total amount: € 305,100.

• Interdisciplinary training programme.

• Deadline for applications: 7 October 2020.

RETAINING:

• 15 postdoctoral fellowships for researchers of all nationalities to carry out research at any university or research centre in Spain or Portugal.

• Maximum duration: 3 years.

• Maximum total amount: € 305,100.

• Interdisciplinary training programme.
