Short story competition for the elderly

The Short Story Competition for elderly writers organised by the ”la Caixa” Foundation and Radio Nacional de España is running this year for the fourteenth time.

The aim of this initiative is to promote reading and the use of the imagination in the elderly, as well as to raise awareness about their skills, knowledge and values in society. The short stories that elderly people write are a reflection of their lives and the experience they’ve gathered, and also their perspective on our history and the current times.

The jury panel will be made up of well-known authors such as Soledad Puértolas and Fernando Schwartz; Ana Vega Toscano, culture specialist at RNE; Miquel Molina, assistant director at La Vanguardia; the winners of the 2021 competition; and Jesús Arroyo, corporate director of Public Affairs at the ”la Caixa” Foundation.

The prize for the competition is the broadcast of the radio adaptation of the short story and the piece of micro-fiction on Radio Nacional de España, and the publication of the text in La Vanguardia and on the ”la Caixa” Foundation and RNE websites, and to form part of the jury panel for the next competition. In recognition of the participants, the short-listed stories will be published in a biannual book.
